Quantum interference distinguishes between constitutional isomers.
Matter waves, as introduced by de Broglie in 1923 (L. de Broglie, Nature, 1923, 112, 540), are a fundamental quantum phenomenon, describing the delocalized center of mass motion of massive bodies and we show here their sensitivity to the molecular structure of constitutional isomers.

The phases of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,3-naphthalenediol (or 2,3-tetralindiol) and of 1,2-cyclohexanediol have been investigated. The structure of a very stable 1:1 compound (or co-crystal) of the cis and trans isomers of 2,3-tetralindiol, the existence of which has been known for nearly a century, has finally been determined. No evidence of any analogous compound between the cis and trans isomers ...
متن کاملEliminating the Dichotomy Between Scripting and Interaction
Throughout the computer graphics literature, but in modeling and animation lore in particular, the prevalent attitude seems to be that scripting and interaction are ir· reconcilably different types of user interface. This paper propounds the belief that this dichotomy is a myth and gives examples of systems which encourage thi8 belief. Two of the systems described are a keyframe animation progr...
متن کاملThe Dichotomy Between Understanding and Treating Emphysema
The long history of investigations into the causes and potential treatments of emphysema encompasses a vast array of chemical and biological research disciplines. A key finding that played a major role in initiating these inquiries occurred in 1963 when Laurell and Eriksson[1] found that individuals with a genetic deficiency in serum alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT) were prone to develop pulmonary emp...
متن کاملDifferentiation of small alkane and alkyl halide constitutional isomers via encapsulation.
Previously we have demonstrated that host 1 is capable of hydrocarbon gas separation by selective sequestration of butane from a mixture with propane in the headspace above a solution of the host (C. L. D. Gibb, B. C. Gibb, J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2006, 128, 16498-16499). Expanding on the idea of using this host as a means to affect guest discrimination, we report here on NMR studies of the binding ...
